Travel Solo with me to Edinburgh, Scotland: Caffeine until Cocktails

How to spend 3 days in Edinburgh, Scotland!

Day 1 in
Edinburgh

I arrived by train from London around 2:30 in the afternoon! If you are traveling by plane into Edinburgh I highly suggest taking an uber to your hotel/airbnb/etc. I ended my trip by doing so and it was much easier to get there! I think when traveling solo it feels safer and a much more controlled environment. But like I said I took 3.5 hour train ride and you arrive in the city center! Immediately when you exit the train station in Edinburgh you are in AWE of the beauty of the city! It was about a 25 minute walk from the train station to the @doubletree Edinburgh City Center! My hotel was located near old town and about an 8 minute walk to the grass market & Victoria Street! This may sound crazy but when I travel solo I tend to lean towards BIG BOX hotels. I stick to the Hilton & Marriott family! I gain points + status which equals free stays and more travel and I just feel safer. They both have apps that provide a lot of resources including chat with the hotel, keyless entry with your phone and check in check out features!
I immediately dropped my things and headed to The White Hart in the Grassmarket where I grabbed a few pints and my favorite beef lasagne. I frolicked in the Grassmarket area for the evening and bar hopped with some friends! It was the perfect evening. I felt safe and was home by midnight!

Day 2 in Edinburgh

I grabbed a quick breakfast at a local cafe by my hotel! (worst travel blogger ever because well I don’t remember the name) The best part of Edinburgh was everything was “tap” your card to pay or donate to churches for entry. It was so convenient!
Then spent the morning walking all over old town seeing all the sites! St. Giles Cathedral was a life changing experience for me and where most recently the Queen lay in state. Walking the cathedrals and learning the extensive history of catholic and Protestant religions! I toured a museum and saw an original King James Bible! Like what?!? You would see this bible at the Greyfriars Kirkyard. During my walk around Old Town I stumbled across Victoria Street which is the inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter.

That afternoon I headed out to @prestonfieldhouseedinburgh for afternoon tea and let me tell you it is an experience I will never forget! I missed the bus to get me out there so I snagged a taxi and it cost about 15 pounds to get me there. Be sure to make reservations on their website so you can experience all the magic that comes with it!I had a super late dinner planned at @the.witchery which I will never get over that incredible meal and location! The Witchery literally changed my life the experience was so amazing.

Day 3 in Edinburgh

I started my morning with breakfast at the painted rooster which came highly recommended and then took a walk to the Edinburgh Castle for a tour! It was incredible and I highly suggest making reservations online prior to your arrival! After the castle tour I made my way to @the_wall_edinburgh for some hot tea! The Wall was recommended by a favorite travel blogger of mine @champagnegetaway
Then you best believe I snagged one last beef lasagne from the @beehiveinn which was divine! Following lunch I had a tour at the @scotchwhiskyexp which was the perfect way to end my trip! Scotch Whiskey Experience is near the Edinburgh Castle as well! After the tour I grabbed lots of drinks in the grass market and snagged a doner kebab (which if you ever studied abroad you know the HYPE), hit up a local grocery store for some treats for my flight and called it an early night!

There are so many things to do in Scotland but I wanted to fully immerse myself in my solo travel and focus on Edinburgh! If you are considering a solo trip BOOOOOK IT NOW! You will not regret it ever!

I can not recommend Edinburgh, Scotland enough especially to my solo female travelers. It was a perfect spot to learn my way around a different country alone! I felt confident and safe and I am so glad I took this adventure. I hope you found this information helpful and don’t forget to follow along on my Instagram, Caffeine until Cocktails!
